Lightning Stakes Guide (10/02/2001)

Flemington 10/11/2001

Track : Good
Weather : Showers
Rail : TRUE

Likely Racing Pattern : The rail has been out at Flemington for a while and the track is quite worn out past the 9M mark. Rail back to the true today means there should be plenty of new ground for the horses to race on. As always, when the rail goes back to the TRUE position after being out for a while, there is the potential for an on pace bias, so be on your guard. Pretty sure the inside is going to be fastest down the straight for the same reason.

Results : Got this part right - inside rail faster down the straight, and just a slight tendancy towards on pace runners.

Betting Tip : Not all that much value around again. Maybe tread lightly with lots of interstate visitors that are hard to line up. Interesting program, with Gold Guru (Race 4) and Sedation (Race 6) both looking to end long running droughts, and Rulable (Race 2) looking to complete the grand slam - 4 wins in a row, at the 4 different city tracks.

We been extremely wussy and yet to dub any Dud Bets this time in - but they will come (the dud indicator is beeping very strongly about Race 7 No1 Skalato, and Race 8 No 6 Miss Power Bird, but we are not ready to stick our necks out yet).

Quaddie Attack : These quaddies are going horrendously, but we will keep churning them out. The laws of averages are on our side. Its rare we go with a one out, but trying a change of tactics.

Race 5 : 1,3,10       1st 1 - Gold Guru (W=$3.90), 3rd 3 - Honourable Mention (W=$6.00)
Race 6 : 4,9,12
Race 7 : 3(scr),5,7,8
Race 8 : 4

= 3 x 3 x 3 x 1 = $13.50

Results : Did not even really get warm.

Betting Portfolio ($50):

Best Bet : Race 7 : 4 - Desert Eagle : $20 Win

Best Each Way : Race 5 No 4. Bomber Bill $10 EW

Best Rough : Race 4 : 10 - Shawnne Chief : $5 EW

Results : Only our 2nd wipe out in 12 weeks - but we were due for a dud week. Forgot this - look at how well the tips went !!

Spent : $50
Return : $0
Net : - $50

Race 2 : 1700M Mares

Selections :
3 - Quietly Adamant
1st (W=$5.90)
1- Rulable
6 - Coup De Maitre

Summary : Small field, pace is OK from 3 - Quietly Adamant, 4 - A Scarlet Lady and 6 - Coup De Maitre. No comment means not worth talking about. Unfortunately, think 1- Rulable is going to get beaten today (just on the weights) and fall short of 4 city wins at the 4 city tracks. Pretty safe 3 box quinella on the 3 tips.

1- Rulable is going for 4 in a row, does not win by much, but is very strong at the end of her races - actually up 2kgs today (on limit), which might just end her chances.
2- Whoopi Ride stole the race at MV with a dawdling pace, not suited last time on a wet track, but also has been up for a while and does not win out of turn.
3rd (W=$7.70)
3 - Quietly Adamant has been racing very well and coming home hard at the end of her races. Can race handy from a good barrier and with claim gets a large weight pull from the top weight. One to beat.
1st (W=$5.90)
5 - A Scarlet Lady failed miserably last start (not sure why). Well held by (1) the start before that on the same weight terms, so place best.
6 - Coup De Maitre : Strong win to chase down leader last start. Well drawn and is lightly raced so plenty of room for improvement. Go well.

R
esults : Pretty much spot on  - 1-Rulable starts short, but is well beaten.  3 - Quietly Adamant with a nice light weight comes hard at the end of the race to grab the prize.

Race 3 : 2000M 4YO + M

Selections :
2 - Simply True
2nd (W=$8.60)
4 - Indian Ridge
3rd (W=$2.30)
9 - Tanzman
1st (W=$21.30)

Quinella : $78.60
Trifecta  : $493.70

Summary : Pace here is quite good for a small field - 1-Oregon Rose, 5 - Malfunction, 7 - Lets Adjeune …No comment means no chance.

1-Oregon Rose : Good win at Sand last start, but did get an easy run in the lead. Comes in under the limit here with the claim, but there are a couple to take her on here. Some chance.
2 - Simply True : 5th up (up 300M), but fitter and is ready to produce here. Can take a good handy sit here and looks the hard to beat. Drops 3 kgs on limit from last run
2nd (W=$8.60)
4 - Indian Ridge - ultra consistent - but desperately in need of a holiday. Looks very well weighted here (dropping 4.5 kgs on lim, going up from Class 6). Tough and fit - likely to get back, but right in this.
3rd (W=$2.30)
5 - Malfunction : QLD form is good, and still lightly raced. Can race handy, but are going to have to watch the market to try and line him up here. Chance
9 - Tanzman : Was a little unlucky last start and is 4th up and fitter. MV night form is never strong, but if there is pace on he will be finishing hard. Chance.
1st (W=$21.30)

Results : Summed it up just about perfect - plenty of pace, and the bolter of the field comes home for a nice win at even nicer odds.  We tip a nice  quinella and trifecta.

Race 4 : 1600M Open

Selections :
10 - Shawnne Chief
3 - Honourable Mention
3rd (W=$5.20)
1 - Gold Guru
1st (W=$3.90)

Others (in order) : 4,2

Pace
Leaders : 10 - Shawnne Chief
Handy : 1 - Gold Guru, 3 - Honourable Mention
Back : 2 - Slideway, 4 - Bello Signor, 5 - Balsura, 6 - Bold Impulse, 7 - El Condor Pasa, 9 - Running On

Chances :
1 - Gold Guru : Looks like this guy might be finally getting some form back. Good run 1st up from let up, when change of riding tactics saw him go forward. Form from that race is holding up with Oval Office winning the Sale Cup on Weds. Has not won since April 98 (at Group 1 !!), and this is about as easy an race as he is going to get. On the other hand, he is a non winner, is probably going to start very very short, and is 2nd up here and up 200m. Goes in as a chance, but not going to be putting any money on him.
1st (W=$3.90)
3 - Honourable Mention : 3rd up and fitter (up 100M). Last preparation was shocking, but super consistent before that , only missing the place a few times in 25 starts. Gets in very well here with claim for in form apprentice. Can sit handy here in a race of little speed at all and placed 7 from 8 this distance. May still need one more run, but against this field looks well suited and rated on top.
3rd (W=$5.20)
4 - Bello Signor : 4th up and fitter. Horse with a heap of ability, but well know for his short prices, his long runs from last at great speed, then hanging out badly, racing erratically and putting his head on the side. They still have not been able to sort this out - he was running on well last start, but still doing the same thing. Not likely to get the speed here that he wants, but with a light weight and ability probably worth keeping safe.
2nd (W=$4.20)
10 - Shawnne Chief : Lightly raced. 3rd up and fitter for 2 runs back (up 200M, but has had 2 x 1400M runs this time in). Probably does need the sting out of the track, but is capable of leading here (no pressure), is a Flem winner and with Munce on board could be the smokey in the field. Give a burl at good odds.

Place :
2 - Slideway : WA horse with a good win strike rate. Close up in the best WA mile races, so likely to have enough ability to have a chance in this fairly weak race. Largely unknown, hard to line up against these, and likely to drift back in the field. Rough chance.
8 - Nothing But Gold : Shocking win strike rate. OK effort at MV night meeting last start, but MV night form is pretty dodgy at best. Consistent enough around city races to be a place chance here.

Sacking:
5 - Balsura : Not sure if the 3kgs apprentice on board can get down to the 48kgs here, but going to be very lightly weighted if she can. Form in country races is just ordinary, and really can't have here.
6 - Bold Impulse :2nd up. Forward run 1st up at big odds. Better known over longer distances, and doubt he will run up to his last run today. No
7 - El Condor Pasa : Well drawn. Yet to win past 1200M is a big concern, and this is 1st try at 1600M. Country form just OK, and even though this is weak, he will still struggle.
9 - Running On : 3rd up and fitter (up 200M). Looks like he needs a wet track, and although dropping in class here, still needs to find some form first. No

Summary : Pretty ordinary field here, so gone for one at (hopefully) good odds. Hopefully, 10 - Shawnne Chief can go to the lead and dictate this, and hopefully he is ready to show something - he is still lightly raced so has not had the chance to do plenty wrong, unlike the rest of this field who are experts in the area. Interesting to see if 1-Gold Guru goes forward again - the change in racing style could make the difference. 3 - Honourable Mention is probably going to need one more run, but this race suits him down to the ground.

Results : 1 - Gold Guru breaks a 3 year winning drought - actually got out to very nice odds ($5.00 with the bookies) which made it worth backing. 4 - Bello Signor gets up to his old tricks again - just a waste of money backing him.

Race 5 : 1000M Lightning Stakes

Selections :
4 - Bomber Bill
12 - Mannington
9 - St Petersburg

Others : 8,1,3

Pace
Leaders : 2 - Sports, 7 - Nan Tien
Handy : 1 - Black Bean, 8 - Zariz, 9 - St Petersburg, 10 - Secret Remedy, 11 - French Braids, 12 - Mannington
Back : 3 - Easy Rocking, 4 - Bomber Bill, 5 - Normal Practice, 6 - Steel City

Chances :
1 - Black Bean : 1st up. Have a lot of time for this horse. He loves Flemington, love the straight, and usually goes well fresh. Few things against him today though - running over the 1000M for the 1st time (and he does take a little time to wind up at the end of his races), is drawn out in 12 (and we are expecting the inside rail to be faster, so he is going to have to come across). Also had the unsuccessful Hong Kong trip since last win, when got scratched before the race, so would like to see how he performs after that. The top 3 all raced in the Salinger in the spring, and this one is best off on weights (and he come down the wrong side of the straight that day). One of my favourites, so goes in, but got some doubts about him today.
2nd (W=$5.20)
4 - Bomber Bill : This guy really seems to have turned the corner and is still a bit under rated. Absolutely loves the straight and always comes home hard at the end of his races. Is dropping back 200M here, but is drawn to get a good sit and is going to be in the finish.
8 - Zariz : Qld horse with big wraps on him. Drawn well out , which may not be an advantage if they come to the inside. Likely to be well supported and there is nothing wrong with his form. Have to keep safe.
9 - St Petersburg : Been very sparingly raced. Good win here on Derby Day, and is still learning how to race. Likely to race handy from inside barrier, and may be the value runner in this field.
12 - Mannington : Well drawn here. 1st up. Was disappointing in the Emirates, but nothing went right last preparation when missed runs, etc, so there were excuses. Likely to like the big track and should be strong at the end of 1000M. Good chance, but don't go taking silly odds about her.

Place :
3 - Easy Rocking : 1st up. Winner here in the Salinger in the spring. Still fairly lightly raced with a good record. Drawn out, and likely to drift back here over the 1000M 1st up. Has the ability to win this, so going in, but another who is probably best suited another day.
3rd (W=$7.40)

Sacking:
2 - Sports : 1st up. Drawn well and likes to race on the speed. Probably get the inside rail from his barrier. Very consistent, and is always in the finish. Faded here over the 1200M in the Salinger, and just does not seem to be at best at Flemington (from memory, the stable have even admitted this). Ready to risk in a smart sprint field.
1st (W=$20.00)
5 - Normal Practice : 1st up. Mixed form interstate, then suddenly strung together 2 impressive wins with flying finishes in spring in Melb. Won recent barrier trial. Going to get well back again, and yet to try the 1000M, so imagining it is going to be too short and he will get too far back in this. No
6 - Steel City : Smart strike rate. Sydney horse who is very fit and racing extremely well. This is a bit of a step up in class though and has got well back last 2 races, which is probably not going to suit here. No
7 - Nan Tien : 4th up and fitter. Spoilt good record with last 3 ordinary performances. Absolute 1000M specialist and looks the leader here, but out of form and this class is going to be too hot. No
10 - Secret Remedy : WA horse, who will go forward, but WA form rarely stacks up and have to leave out.
11 - French Braids : Well drawn. Has won 2 barrier trials, so is very forward, but this is 1st run since Aug last year which is a fair amount of time off. 1st time in Melb, and whilst obviously has ability, prefer to see how she goes.

Summary : Extremely open race - stack of chances - and do prefer to sit back and watch races when there are a lot of boom horses up against each other - especially the 3 year old fillies who always seem to get more attention than they actually deserve. Pace should be genuine to fast, with 2 - Sports, 7 - Nan Tien going forward. Probably a lot of value here is you can get away from the obvious two (8 - Zariz ,12 - Mannington). Putting 4 - Bomber Bill on top cause think he might get forgotten about in all the hype about the other horses, but he is flying, and has the advantage of race fitness over most of these. If you can get good each way odds you are laughing. Expect 12 - Mannington to be ready to show her best, and throw 9 - St Petersburg in as the value 3 year old.

Results : The form from the Salinger in the Spring holds up strongly. Like the Australia stakes 2 weeks ago, an amazing lack of pace for a sprint race allows 2 - Sports to steal it. Huge run from 2-Black Bean who just found it a bit too short (he takes a while to wind up).  The 3 year olds all flop - they really do get far too much attention..

Race 6 : 1200M Welter

Selections :
8 - Radiant Sword
7 - Kentucky Hula
3 - Sedation
SCR

Others : 5

Pace
Leaders : 7 - Kentucky Hula, 10 - Zarevic
Handy : 4 - Grey Regent, 5 - Ulricho, 8 - Radiant Sword
Back : 1- Royal Caliph, 2 - Spying, 3 - Sedation, 6 - Charlie Chops, 9 - Fruit 'n' Veg

Chances :
3 - Sedation : Maybe, finally Sedation can crack it for a win (not won since Nov 99). Last 3 runs have all been in much harder class and has been not suited by slow pace (MV run), unlucky (Caulf), or on wrong side of track (Flem). Is going to be strong at the end of 1200M, and looks well weighted here coming back from Group 1 to welter company. Only query is - he might just be a non winner, and is going to start short. So he goes in, but not going to be jumping on with confidence. If he can't win this then something is seriously wrong.
SCR
5 - Ulricho : Well drawn. Goes well here, and has drawn the wrong side of the track a couple of times now down the straight. Is going to get a nice sit here, with cover, just off the speed. Some chance.
7 - Kentucky Hula : Fit on pace runner, who has been placed 8 from 9 at the 1200M. Has been beaten by 2 smart sprinting mares the last 2, and has now won or placed 8 from last 9 runs. Small field here, and there isn't a stack of pace, so might get an easy run on the speed and be able to spring away with it. Good chance.
8 - Radiant Sword : Has a bit of ability, but has not quite put it all together yet. 1st up, and likely to go well fresh. Another who will race forward in a race of medium pace. Goes in as a chance.

Sacking:
1- Royal Caliph : 1st up. Top weight, but gets apprentice claim. Very genuine when right, but never done anything 1st up and leave out.
3rd (W=$36.70)
2 - Spying : 1st up and gets claim for in form apprentice. Just beaten 1st up last time in. Has been disappointing in Melbourne before. Going to have to watch the market 1st up, but prefer to let run. Likely to get back in a race of minimal speed.
1st (W=$3.40)
4 - Grey Regent : Fit and consistent. Is drawn a little wide, considering the rail are likely to be quicker. Form is OK, but nothing flash, but can't really back with confidence.
6 - Charlie Chops : Shocking name. QLD horse with smart win strike rate. Not really a big fan of backing unknown horses, so still prefer to wait and see how he goes in Melb. Form in QLD is good, but not beating much. Watch the market, but prefer to risk
2nd (W=$3.10)
9 - Fruit 'n' Veg : A likely quinella with Charlie Chops. Looks to have injury problems (last win Nov 99). 1st up for a year. No
10 - Zarevic : Well drawn and should get the rails if that is going to be an advantage. Placed 6 from 14 here at Flem, which is pretty good, but is a big query at the 1200M (yet to win from 13 starts). Have to leave out

Summary : Not a race we can bet on with any confidence. Lots of unknowns, particularly with visitors 2-Spying and 6- Charlie Chops, and whether 3-Sedation is ever going to crack it for another win. Small field, and there does not seem to be all that much pace for a sprint race - probably 7 - Kentucky Hula and 10 - Zarevic contesting the lead (this should play against 2 -Spying who gets back). Going to put 8 - Radiant Sword on top and keeping fingers crossed that he is going to do something fresh, with 7 - Kentucky Hula the danger, and we eager await to see how 3 - Sedation gets beaten this week.

Results : We get it pretty much wrong and the two favourites fight it out.  Those inside barriers down the straight when the inside is faster are a big No No

Race 7 : 1400M 3YO C+G Group 3

Selections :
4 - Desert Eagle
14 - Kosta Zoff
1st (W=$18.40)
9 - Paradiddle

Rough Place (in order) : 16, 7,2,11

Pace
Leaders : 7 - Starbucks, 16 - Crop
Handy : 4 - Desert Eagle, 5 - Niavnek, 11 - Adolescence, 14 - Kosta Zoff, 17 - Buster Dream, 18 - Lucky Lad
Back : 1 - Skalato, 2 - Inspire, 6 - Springsteen, 8 - Torlesse, 9 - Paradiddle, 10 - Lord Dane, 12 - Zazzman, 13 - Major Breakthrough, 15 - Burleigh

Chances :
4 - Desert Eagle : Gets an awful lot in his favour today. Well drawn and races handy, so will get a great sit from the barrier. 3rd up and fitter, and plugged on well when beaten at Caulfield (and he was in the worst part of the track). At the set weights he meets those from last start on better weight terms as well. (meets Crop 2kgs better for a finishing just in front of him). Awful lot in his favour today and the one to beat.
14 - Kosta Zoff : Horse with a real boom on him, but has yet to deliver. Well drawn here, and has been racing handy this time in, which is going to put him right in this race. Fitter for 2 runs in, and we are ready to jump on him now we should get decent odds. Chance.
1st (W=$18.40)
16 - Crop : Another with a big boom on him. Effort in Melb have been fair. Drawn out here, and likes to go forward, so likely to be caught out wide in a large field. Over raced 2 start back at Caulfield, then plugged on well last start. Major problem is badly off at weight against Desert Eagle who beat him home last start. Still learning what this is all about, but has ability and a rough chance.
3rd (W=$15.10, P=$4.60)

Place :
2 - Inspire : Drawn out. 3rd up and fitter for the run. Mixes form badly and maybe the win here on Derby day at 100-1 was a fluke. Does get a bit of a weight pull here today at set weights, but many of those who beat him home the last 2 are going around again here. Loomed up at the home turn at Caulfield last start, but really need to wait for him to show some consistency. Throw is as a fluke place chance.
7 - Starbucks : 4th up and fitter. Disappointing last start at MV when maybe did not run out the 1600M. This is going to be much harder. Maybe a rough place chance as drawn OK, and will go forward
9 - Paradiddle : 2nd up. Good win in tough finish at the Gold Coast, but the form from that race has not really held up. Was thereabouts in the early 3YO races, but think he turned the corner with his run in the Sandown Guineas. Prefer to let him run here, as will probably just drift back and might still need this run - but worth following in upcoming weeks over longer distances.
11 - Adolescence : Drawn inside. Very honest performances during the spring when often had fitness edge on his rivals. Only had the 1 preparation, so probably go well fresh and might be able to go forward as well. Throw in as a place chance.

Sacking:
1 - Skalato : 2nd up (up 200M). No doubt this guy has a stack of ability, but we have been know to knock him in the past. Was a definite doubt 1st up, and ran like that, so not too concerned overall about the run - what is more concerning is that he over raced and was leading early. The concern had been there during the spring that once he learnt to race forward he would keep doing it and over race. Fortunately, he has drawn an inside barrier here which should give him more of a chance to settle. Having said that, the other option is drifting back from an inside barrier, which over the 1400M (favours on pacers) at Flem is not a plus. Ready just to let him run on based on poor first up run and see how he goes.
2nd (W=$4.30)
3 - Royale Exit : Drawn very wide, but should not be too bad as is likely to drop out at the back of the field. 1st up, and likely to be running home at the end of the race, but no more than a rough place chance.
5 - Niavnek : 3rd up (up 200M). Back in form with last run, but drawn wide here and probably is going to want to go forward and will get caught wide. Stepping up to 1400M for the 1st time, and prefer to just watch and see how he goes.
6 - Springsteen : 3rd up and fitter. Has not shown much this time in, and meeting many of the same horse again, so hard to see him being in the finish.
8 - Torlesse : 2nd up (up 200M). Nzer having 1st start in Aus. Unbeaten in 4 starts, but this is much harder, and he has to lose sometime - and this looks as good a time as any.
10 - Lord Dane : Can be a little costly to follow. Ran home very well 1st up, but up 200M here 2nd up and likely to drift well back. Might still become a genuine horse, but going to let him go around here as well.
12 - Zazzman : Shocking draw. Not races for 5 weeks and wins were over longer distances or in weaker class. No
13 - Major Breakthrough : Even run in Autumn Stakes at Caulfield, but once again, has to give weight to Desert Eagle who bet him home that day. That was his first smattering of form for a while, and looks like he might be a wet tracker. Place chance if we get a wet track.
15 - Burleigh : 1st up, and don't back horses 1st up over 1400M. 2nd in a recent barrier trial. Ran a good race 1st up last time in, but really looking for a wet track and not today.
17 - Buster Dream : Well drawn. 2nd up (up 100M). Did nothing 1st up, and wait till he shows some form.
18 - Lucky Lad : 3rd up and lightly raced. Drawn well and races handy, but making a big step up in class here and prefer to let run.

Summary : These set weights races are usually pretty straight forward, most of these have been running against each other and you can line them up easily. Big field, should ensure a genuine pace, and there are a couple drawn out wide who are going to want to go forward - 5 - Niavnek and 16 - Crop. 4 - Desert Eagle looks an absolute stand out on form, hopefully we can get some decent odds (anything over $4.00 would do nicely). The rest are a pretty even bunch - might be a good trifecta race if you go 4 - Desert Eagle to win and throw in the roughies as place chances at good value.

Results : The favourite is close up, but misses the place. We pick the value 2nd pick though for a nice collect - 14 Kosta Zoff fights back well to win.  We are now ready to jump on 2 - Skalato.

Race 8 : 1400M 3YO F

Selections :
8 - Lan Kwai Fong 1st (W=$8.10)
6 - Miss Power Bird
SCR
12 - De Souba

Others (in order) : 2,4

Pace
Leaders : 6 - Miss Power Bird, 7 - Just Fun, 13 - The Baggy Green
Handy : 8 - Lan Kwai Fong, 9 - Deltrice, 11 - Sonarchi
Back : 1 - Ponton Flyer, 2 - Dandify, 3 - Oh Blue Angel, 4 - Flying Spice , 5 - Dashing Granada, 10 - Sophie's Rule

Chances :
2 - Dandify : 1st up. Sydney filly with a real boom on her. Going to have to watch market. Did miss the main spring races in melb, so has been well looked after. 1st up at 1400M is always difficult, and is likely to drift back. Chance if right, but probably prefer to let run.
2nd (W=$4.30)
4 - Flying Spice : Filly with a strong finish at the end of her races. 2nd up here (up 200M) from strong win 1st up win when top weight. Still have not seen the best of her, and seems to be more genuine than many of these. Always dubious about horses 2nd up and up in distance, and she is going to get back. Chance, but one to considering more strongly in following weeks.
6 - Miss Power Bird : Boom filly, but is yet to really take on any class opposition. 2nd up here (up 200M). Drawn wide, but likely to go forward from barrier, and there is not too much pace here. She is going to start very short here, and up to 1400M to the first time, and into Group 3 company really represents a BAD VALUE BET. No doubt she has a stack of ability, which could see her through this, so a chance, but not a betting proposition.
SCR
8 - Lan Kwai Fong : One of the surprise runners of the spring, who worked through her grades very well and was very competitive, largely because she could run on the speed. Think she is going to improve even further this time in and ready to get on her 1st up. Go well.
1st (W=$8.10)
12 - De Souba : Unknown Sydney horse who is not long out of maiden class, but has the big advantage here of being 1400M race fit (which few of her rivals are). Likely to get back a bit, but maybe throw in a nice odds for some fun.. Rough chance.

Place:
11 - Sonarchi : 3rd up and fitter. Is quite consistent and usually there abouts - and can race handy. Expect improvement with the 2 runs in, but is still a maiden. Throw in as a rough place chance.

Sacking:
1 - Ponton Flyer : Filly who mixes form badly. Ran on OK 1st up on wet track , which is not her cup of tea. Most of her spring rivals are not here, so this is going to be easier. 2nd up and up 200M. Just not convinced she is genuine enough to go trusting with your money. Prefer to risk
3rd (W=$4.00)
3 - Oh Blue Angel : Has not had much of a break since the Spring. Had a freshen up and is well draw here. Another that is difficult to line up, but if she runs up to her Spring form would be right in this. Going to leave out, but watch the market
5 - Dashing Granada : Just behind the best ones in the spring. Another who will drift back, and did take a few runs to find any form last time in - prefer to see.
7 - Just Fun : Surprised with all the way win last start - but came just as rain was coming down so probably flatters form a little. Will get the lead from barrier 1, with Miss Power Bird sitting on her outside. Did win well last start, and she should still be able to beat the others behind her home again on weights, but really seems to need a wet track to show best. Passing.
9 - Deltrice : 4th up and fitter. Safely held by (7) last start. Can race handy and yet to miss a place, but up in grade here is going to be no easier - so this looks a good enough time to blemish her record. No
10 - Sophie's Rule : 1st up. Has some ability, but 1st up here at 1400M in this tougher class, really cannot have.
13 - The Baggy Green : Drawn out. Likely to go forward as well from outside barrier. Maiden, and meets (4) 4 kgs worse off for being beaten last start. Outclassed here.

Summary : Pace should be genuine here - 7 - Just Fun, 13 - The Baggy Green with 6 - Miss Power Bird sitting outside them. Ready to risk 6 -Miss Power Bird here, no doubt she does have a lot of ability, but is going to start very short, and this is much smarter than the fields at her previous starts - there are several here that on their best form could probably run over the top of her. Taking the risk that 8 - Lan Kwai Fong is ready to perform 1st up.

Results : We top off a pretty good day with another winner on top - 8 Lan Kwai Fong races handy 1st  up and wins easily - really seems to have improved even further and may have been underated in the Spring.
