Launch of GG TV

This week sees the launch of the new digital TV racing channel known as racing.com, the joint project between Racing Victoria and Channel 7.

Or as we like to call it - GG TV

Seriously, how could they go past that name?

This is the most anticipated event in equine broadcasting since the startling conclusion to Mr Ed.

A horse is a horse, of course, of course. Or is it..? Prepare to be shocked.

It has been a tumultuous year for racing broadcasting - and for punters who are so very often the ones who have to suffer through all the corporate warfare.

The popular, but financially leaky TVN pulled the plug back in March amongst all sort of dubious claims.

Racing Victoria and Sky Channel then settled down to duke it out, ended up beating each other senseless , and agreed to disagree.

So Sky retaliated by not showing Victorian racing at all and instead started apologizing a lot. So sorry. We are really sorry. Did we say sorry? Can we just say - sorry?

Racing Victoria then pulled an unexpected move from the play book, and suddenly joined up with Channel 7 to have its very own TV channel.

The "I am leaving you and starting my own TV station" trick is an oldie but a goodie.

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Saturday's racing.com TV launch is to be hosted by none other than Bruce McAvaney, a true racing fan and not a glitzy media puppet. Fancy having someone who didn't play sport as a commentator! But so far there is no sign of a talking equine co-host.

The channel will broadcast the Victorian races live and free, from all over Victoria, every day of the year with detailed form commentary, mounting yard previews and post race interviews, which is stuff that punters want. Hopefully, they might even keep the current graphics, which are simple, crisp, clear and concise and not make a move to busy scrolling, rolling, jiggling and rotating over engineered screen displays.

In late breaking, and totally awesome news the new racing channel will also be back on Foxtel Channel 522 as of this weekend. The channel is also known as "I Can't Believe It Is Not TVN"

It will be interesting to see where this new station goes. There should be a roll out of lots of new programs over the next few months to make the most of the new channel. There is a huge opportunity here for cross promotions with existing Channel 7 programs, and to make some content that will move over into the mainstream and attract new people to racing. This is a big chance for racing to get people back after decades of declining interest.

What we are really hanging out for is some reality TV punting shows. Enough of the cooking, dating and renovation shows - we want to see the real life drama and hysterics that only the punt can produce.

The rumour is that Channel 7 are already planning a special presentation of the ratings winning and laugh out loud funny "Horses do the funniest things (especially when you back them)"

You can watch Victorian racing via the following options:

- Channel 78 digital metro areas

- Channel 68 digital country areas

- Racing.com online, including on your mobile

- Channel 522 on Foxtel (I Can't Believe It is Not TVN)

- Sky Channel on Foxtel Channel 519 (brief glimpses of races only, before they return to the next obscure greyhound meeting)

- Beamed directly into your eyeballs
(we are currently in confidential negotiation for this new cutting edge technology)

P.S Yes - we are free and available for a screen test and would love our own variety show. Thank you so much for asking.

Last Week's Results

Follow the Leader

The track strongly favoured on pacers last week at Moonee Valley, but we had guessed that would be the case in our form preview - so we had no excuse for the poor results. There were a few obvious winners in the selections.

We were close to the money, but frustratingly struggled to hit the finishing line in first place. All of the Betting Portfolio bets finished in the first four - which unfortunately also included the Lay of the Day Race 3: 5-SHENZHOU STEEDS who sneakily got up and stung us on protest. Ouch! That is so not allowed.

The $50 Betting Portfolio got back most of its money with a string of each way placings and managed to cling onto profitable status (just).

2015 Spring Campaign: 2 weeks - 1 profit - 1 returns - 0 wipe out. Net: +$23.90

We report all of our results as a $1 Victorian TAB tote dividend as a consistent benchmark that everyone has access to, no matter when the bet is placed, though often better odds are available through the various corporate bookmakers.

You can play along with us this spring by opening a Sportsbet account and following the weekly tips.

THE TRIEQUITHON
___________________________________

There is going to be something a bit different happening out on the Caulfield lawns on Memsie Stakes Day.

Between races there will be Racing Victoria's Off The Track Triequithon.

What is a Triequithon?

Well, apart from being a totally made up word, it is a mini equestrian event - with dressage, cross country and show jumping.

So just like mini golf - but with horses!

If you are on course on Saturday, wander over to the public lawns and have a look.

More details about equestrian at Caulfield.
