Turf Deli Racing News

A Royal Baby

The rumours have been circulating in the women's magazines for some weeks now.

Was that a baby bump we could see on the beach holiday ?

Does Nelly look a little flushed today?

Why was Nelly only sipping water at the grand unveiling of her statue ?

And then the big news that everyone had been hoping for.

BLACK CAVIAR and new beau EXCEED AND EXCEL are expecting their first child. Heir to the throne of best racehorse in Australia.

Bookmakers immediately opened up a betting market on the name of the royal first foal.

Whilst monarchists were showing strong support for traditional names like King Caviar, Royal Caviar Queen Caviar, Princess Caviar and All You Can Eat Caviar, the modern parents may pull a surprise and there has been strong money for the highly unusual George Alexander Louis Caviar.

Bookmakers are also offering a money back special if the foal comes out looking like Prince Charles or any other member of the royal family. It is not like the bookmaker offer gimmicks we are being flooded with this spring couldn't get any sillier now could they ?

No risk $300 ping with BETFAIR

This is your big chance to pick one at odds during Cup Week and try and land a sizeable bounty.

The strategy is pretty simple.

Plonk up to $300 on the nose at one at odds tomorrow, or sometime over the spring.

If it wins - you are laughing.

If not - no drama, you get your money refunded and just go back to your normal $5 each way betting.

Always read the Terms and Conditions on these offers - to make sure you make the most of them.

This offer is for new accounts only who join via this link .

It needs to be the first bet in your new account, and it needs to be a single bet up to $300 so you need to find a price on offer where you can bet the whole amount in one go, else use the Betfair Starting Price option.

So maybe join up, wait to till you see something you like at odds and just go for it. Great if you are a small punter and always dreamed of having a serious bash at one at odds.

Using a similar offer a few years ago several small punters on our mailing list had substantial four figure collects with $200 win bets on roughie PINKER PINKER in 2011 Cox Plate. It is a great chance to have a big collect without any risk involved.

The only issue with Betfair was having to invest a bit of time to wait for the best price to come up on the betting exchange. However, this spring they are offering Best of Five - that is - best of the three TABs, the Starting Price and the Betfair Starting Price.

Which is really an excellent offer - and means you can just place bets in the morning, get close to the best odds on offer and enjoy your day at the races.

Last Week's Results

Hot and Cold

Oaks Day was a bit on the chilly side, and Belinda Carlisle did her best to warm them up by belting out a few tunes. The horses behind the start in the Oaks actually seemed to appreciate it and busted a few dance moves to "Heaven On Earth" before the main race.

Our tips have been either very, very hot, or very very cold this week. Coming into the 2nd half of the Oaks program we had only found one lousy even money favourite on top all week, and only a very few winners in the selections. But we had found a $600 box trifecta on Sat, a $210 quinella on Tuesday and pushed a long shot $50 top pick which ran 3rd.

So continuing the theme, despite struggling for winners all week, all of a sudden we found two nice value top picks winning, and even better tipped the $892 trifecta straight out in main sprint race of the day.

Race 4: 3-DYSTOPIA W=$4.30
Race 6: 3-KIRRAMOSA W=$2.50
Race 7: 3-SURGE AHEAD 1st W=$7.60 - top pick
Race 8: 11-LANKAN RUPEE 1st W=$9.20 - top pick

Race 8: 11-LANKAN RUPEE, 3-SNITZERLAND, 17-NICHOLLS COURT

Quinella = $17.10
Straight Trifecta = $892

The Betting Portfolio keeps getting returns, but just can't find a winner so keeps slowly sinking towards a pretty much inevitable major loss this spring

2013 Spring Campaign: 12 weeks - 2 profits - 7 returns - 3 wipe outs - Net: -$497.10

If you are heading out to races during Cup Week check out our Flemington Track Guide.

Handy hints with associated nonsense about where to meet, where to hang out and how to avoid the queues on course.

Toilets

It always pays to know where the sturdy, spacious permanent toilet blocks are. If you go out the back of the course, towards the main car park, past the book makers ring, just near the Flemington Heritage centre there is a major, solid, permanent and very under utilised toilet block. No frustrating lines for the ladies in their race day finest.

Wi Fi

The VRC have installed a state of the art Wi Fi service at Flemington to cope with the Cup Week demand.

It is also part of the government's fibre to the stable national roll out so that all of the international horses can video chat in high definition with their loved ones back home.

If phone battery life is an issue for you on a long social day, consider taking along two phones if you have an old model handy.

You can use one phone for phone calls and SMSes to keep up with friends, and use the other phone without a SIM card to connect to the free WiFi for Facebook, Twitter and betting applications. Such is the modern age.

TAB Website

If you are betting from home and the TAB website struggles under the weight of Cup Day 50 cent bets (as it normally does), there is also a stripped down simpler version which is worth a look TAB Lite.

The Cups King

Don't forget if you are heading to Flemington this week it is a compulsory condition of entry into the racecourse to have your photo taken with the Stature of Bart. #TheCupsKingAndI
