Turf Deli Racing News

Free Punting Tool Box

With the main, mad month of Puntober upon us it is now time to bury the head well and truly into the form guide and search for those ever elusive winners.

To assist, here is a list of personally recommended (and more importantly - free) websites that serious and casual punters alike need to keep handy to make the most of Springtime goodness.

www.tab.com.au
The latest TAB website (Victoria and NSW) basically isn't very flash at all - even though it is developed in flash. It has been roundly hounded by many customers (just visit the TAB Sportsbet Facebook page if you don't believe us). Apart from being too slow and hanging all the time, one year on it is still bug ridden, there is too much information crammed on the one screen, the bet confirmation slip is a total mess to read and you can't copy and paste the text of your bets like you used to. Thankfully, the bet history displays the sponsor and race name boldly and clearly - which is so very, very useful but good luck finding the actual name of the horse, the odds and how much you have bet.

In the early days of the TAB you had to place your bets in the morning and go back the next day to collect. Now with the wonders of modern technology - you can just sit, and wait, and wait, and wait some more in the comfort of your own home for the bloody thing to refresh.

Racing Victoria
The central resource for all factual racing information. As opposed to, the central resource for all nonsensical racing information, which is of course, Turf Deli. In particular, Racing Victoria's free form service is seriously good. View the day's fields. Click through for brief form, or detailed form with lifetime starts for each horse (very handy for checking wet track form in detail). Plus vital information like trials, jockey's colours, stewards reports from previous meetings, and race nominations for each horse so you can see if a horse is being kept to run in a particular race.

Racehorse Talk Australia
Racehorse talk forum, full of nice, polite, and knowledgeable people (unlike most online forums), from all facets of the racing industry, and is very well administered to keep online behaviour appropriate. Great for voicing your opinion in a supportive environment and picking the brains of fellow punters and racing enthusiasts. There is always lots of vibrant and informative discussion about anything vaguely to do with racing, plus competitions, plus some very knowledgeable punters.

Free TVN live racing stream
We got banned from the TVN Facebook page earlier in the year (naughty Turf Deli, naughty) for being a bit of a social media pest and politely asking questions on behalf of punters when they withdrew their free racing video archive on bigpond. Seemed a bit strange, especially after the main TVN talking heads had been harping on for years about how important it was to look after the punter.

You can read over the old Facebook posts on this issue here.

But looks like the decision is going to stay for the time being so we need to do the best with what we have. You can still view the TVN feed online and watch the live races for free at www.racingnetwork.com.au. Click on Watch Now in the video box.

The racing replay archive has a subscription fee if you want to do the video form for a meeting, but if you are organised you get the last two days worth of race replays for free. Which is great if you want to do the Five Minute Instant Quaddie at the end of the working day.

And if you do happen to spot any winners - please let us know. We could do with some.

Twitter
The racing industry has really taken to Twitter and all the main players, and even Turf Deli, are quite active on this social media attention seeking device. But it is actually really handy for quickly distributing important information.

The main people to follow are:

Racing Victoria Stewards - important updates pre and post race especially regards injuries leading into the weekend races and changes of riding tactics, which is information that it is very easy to miss.

Samuel Hyland - Trackwalker mainly for the very important track walk report every morning.

Each of the main racing clubs are on Twitter, mainly for promotions and news, and they will normally quickly respond to you if you tweet them. Even if you are sitting in the grandstand and want the sound turned up - just let them know. Now that is service. Their Twitter accounts are:

Racing Victoria

Moonee Valley Racing Club

Melbourne Racing Club

Flemington VRC

You don't need to have a twitter account to view these pages, clicking on the links will show a full history of all tweets sent out, so you can check them regularly for the latest news.

Deposit $50, Bet With $200

For this week only IASBET have been nice enough to increase their freebie offer for new accounts.

If you open a new account and deposit $50, you will automatically get credited with $150 worth of freebies.

This is a deposit offer too. Most corporate bookmakers these days only offer to match the value of your first bet placed.

If you are planning to bet $50 over the Spring Carnival, then make sure you get your money's worth by taking up these offers when they magically appear in your inbox.

You can bet with IASBET the same way you bet on the TAB, so you can take quinellas, trifectas and the ever desirable quadrellas and often you will get a dividend that is better than what your local TAB pays. Plus you can choose between tote odds or fixed odds and more often than not end up collecting even more when you back a winner.

Victorians - we don't want you to feel left out. Open an account and we will make sure you are taken care of.

With a small deposit, plus the tasty freebies you can play along with our weekly Betting Portfolio this spring and have a bit of fun on the punt this spring carnival.

If you already have an IASBET account you can still earn some freebies with the Refer A Friend bonus.

Forward this offer on and get your friends to quote your Refer A Friend number when they open their account. That's another $50 freebie per friend to add to the punting shopping basket.

One week only - offer closes when they jump in the Caulfield Guineas 12/10/2013

Last Week's Results

Protesting Way Too Much

It was a day of protests last week at Flemington, in fact, towards the end of the day they decided they might as well sound the protest siren before they even jump - just to save time.

The most vocal of protests though were from Turf Deli punters complaining about there barely being a winner in sight. Not a single winner on top (but lots of place getters), and only one winner in the selections - the nicely valued 7-SE SAUVER 1st W=$18.10

The Lay of the Day had the luckiest get out ever, when SEA MOON crossed the line in first position, only to be relegated on protest. Now that was a very lucky escape. But we are sure the GOTTA TAKE CARE form is the right form for the first Tuesday in November.

The Betting Portfolio got some money back, but we keep notching up place getters and we are in need of a good value winner. We have almost racked up enough losses now to cover a nice weekend away to a politicians' wedding somewhere. Zing !

CAULFIELD TRACK GUIDE

If you are heading out to Caulfield this week check out our Caulfield Track Guide .

Handy hints with associated nonsense about where to meet, where to hang out and how to avoid the queues on course.

Post Race Entertainment:

There is even more entertainment value for the on course patron this year.

On top of all the racing action, the Melbourne Racing Club has organised post race concerts for Caulfield Guineas Day, by Birds of Tokyo, and for Caulfield Cup Day, by The Living End (26 starts, 4 wins, 3 placings).

Thankfully, neither of them will be performing Daryl Braithwaite's Horses.

Although this may be considered for future years if there is any trouble getting the crowd to leave quickly at the end of the day.

UP TO $300 ON THE NOSE AT ONE AT ODDS
_______________________________________
Betfair First Bet Free

BETFAIR have increased their sign up offer to be a massive refund of up to $300 on your first bet if it loses.

This is your big chance to pick a roughie at odds during Spring and try to land a bounty.

The strategy is pretty simple. Set up a new account. Then wait patiently. You have a week to place your bet.

Plonk up to $300 on the nose at one at odds when you spot a roughie you like.

If it wins - you are laughing.

If not - no drama, you get your money back and can start again and go back to betting normally.

Always read the Terms and Conditions on these offers - to make sure you make the most of them. The offer is for new accounts and it needs to be a single bet up to $300 so you need to find a price where you can bet the $300 in one go, else use the Betfair Starting Price or Tote options.

Every week over spring we are going to pick out a horse at better than $10 to have a $300 no risk ping on.

CAULFIELD Race 4: 4-VATICAN
