Cup Day Value Pack

As is often the case, it was extremely tricky going betting on Melbourne Cup day. As we warned in the form guide the day is normally full of $20 winners, and gigantic trifectas and first fours.

If you have a look through the papers, most tipsters struggled badly. Luckily we were on top of it - and the tips had a grand day out. From 9 races we found two nice winners on top, and another two in the selections, including a long shot. In fact from the 8 top picks we had left after scratchings we managed 2 winners and 3 place getters, nearly all at nice each way odds. Frustratingly we managed 3 of the first 4 runners home in a couple of races, so we were frustratingly close to big collects all day.

Race 2: 15-INFLUENTIAL MISS 1st W=$24.00
Race 3 : 14-MACEDONIAN 1st W=$5.80, QUIN = $27.70
Race 4 : 13-JERSEY LILY 1st W=$5.30 - top pick
Race 8 : 12-TAGUS 1st W=$11.90 - top pick

The Melbourne Cup detailed form analysis was spot on in determining who the winning chances were, how the track would race and what factors to consider, and summed up how the race would be run pretty accurately. Our key to the race ? - winning form going in, and the three fighting out the finish were all last start winners. We boxed the Cup trifecta in the first four selections, but of course it was fairly obvious and the one time we do that it's a tiny dividend of $306.

The Betting Portfolio got most of its money back with another value quinella. Of course, as is often the case with these bets, the numbers not only ran the quinella, but also the $520 trifecta and $2316 first four. Oops.

The Betting Portfolio continues to cruise along : 14 weeks, 8 profits, 3 returns, 3 wipe outs and a running profit of +337.95. Which means we are pretty much guaranteed to make a profit this season - but we will do our upmost to try and totally stuff it up in the 3 meetings remaining.
