Turf Deli Horse Of The Week
Might and Power - Retirement 16/09/00

Turf Deli copped a lot of flak, several bomb threats, and a strategically placed thumb tack on a chair for making Might and Power the Dud of the Week recently. We stand by the call - it was obvious that despite the buzz trying to convince us otherwise he was just not his old self. However, he still ranks as the best horse Turf Deli has seen. So, to even the ledger a bit, we are making him Horse of the Week this week as he announces his retirement from the track.

So turn on the sad farewell music, cue the slow motion replays and sit back and take a trip down memory lane :

the 7.5 length win in the 1997 Caulfield Cup which still ranks as the most amazing performance Turf Deli has seen on the race track

the 1997 Melbourne Cup win when holding off several challengers in the lead and still holding out the fast finishing Doremius

the 1998 Cox Plate when won as he liked and bought Moonee Valley to its knees.

We rise and salute the departing champion. Yes - a genuine piece at Turf Deli - who would have thought we could actually say something sincere and positive ?
