Mr Murphy 21/02/01 There is always seems to be one horse that dominates the main Autumn races for the 3 year olds. These races usually have small fields, and there is always a strong tendency towards those that race on pace (e.g Pins last year). Also, horses that are one run ahead in their preparation keep the break on their rivals as they step up in distance each week. This year, Mr Murphy met both of these criteria, and not surprising dominated the 3 year old races. Which sounds like we are down playing his ability. Nup. His wins were very impressive, especially the turn of foot he displayed in the Alister Clark Stakes. Whether he goes on from here waits to be seen (often once the competitors catch up on fitness, or the action moves to Sydney the form can be turned on its head). What we do appreciate though is just having a nice predictable set of races we can bet on each year with confidence, and even better, actually have that confidence reflected in cash coming back through the betting window.
