Turf Deli Dud Of The Week
Ugachaka V Gold Lottey  14/09/02

We here at Turf Deli love nothing more than lapping up the over the odds when these media spruik horses go around at poor odds week after week after week. There have been a stack of them the last year or so - Royal Code, Moon Dragon and Ugachaka being the worse culprits. There must be some very loyal punters around who go backing these horses week after week irrespective of odds.

Ugachaka is definitely an above average mare - but as a investment she is just plain bad news. At her best on wet ground, she does not like being drawn inside and just about perpetually starts under the odds and there is always value to be had backing again her.

It happened again on Saturday at Moonee Valley (16/09/2002) - Ugachaka looked ready to win after 3 runs in- but at $2.50 and short priced favourite she was appallingly poor value. Gold Lottey, just as talented goes around at $11.40 in the same race and dually salutes whilst the favourite is once again blocked for runs all the way down the straight

Here is their records over the past year since start of Spring - September 2001 :

Before this race, Ugachaka has had 14 starts, for THREE wins (at 11/4, 7/2 and 13-4) and two placings (3-1 and 7-4). Amazingly she has been beaten favourite on FIVE separate occasions (3-1, 7/4, 5-2, 11-4 and 5-2) (SIX if you count today). A very expensive habit for those who follow her.

Meanwhile, Gold Lottey has had 16 starts for THREE wins (at 10-1, 9-4 fav and 5-1) and 5 placings (9-1, 10-1, 10-1, 8-1, 14-1) and just the once beaten when favourite (6-1)

So there is a simple way to make a profit - watch out for Ugachaka - and back against her.
