The Naturalism Stakes on Saturday was chock full of promise all, deliver nothing, get back, run on and make that good Melbourne Cup trial horses. The number one ticket holder in that exclusive club is The Hind, a 6 year old stayer trained by Peter Hayes.

The Hind was damm unlucky in last year’s Melbourne Cup, getting badly interfered with when running into the finish. Which is the only race each year we would even consider placing a bet on him. The rest of the time he sucks in the mug punters by flashing home in an eye catching manner, as he did against Sunline last start in the Feehan Stakes (but if you look carefully he was still beaten 8.5 lengths). Not that we are complaining - it means better odds for the rest of us.

Since winning the Adelaide Cup in May 1998, The Hind has had 22 starts for 1 win (5/2 favourite) and 1 second. Now there is some form to pay some attention to…
