Turf Deli Spring Campaign 2014

Like the rest of Team Australia, it is harsh budget cuts all around at team Turf Deli for Spring 2014.

Gone is the team of high priced corporate advisors.

The typing pool has been long disbanded and the photographic team made redundant.

The chauffeur, the fashion stylist, the in house chef and even the mobile dog spa, all gone in a cruel round of budget cuts.

Poor spa-less doggies.

But surely, surely, the nubile, tanned, blonde and generationally disproportionate young female companion will stick around through the tough times?

Turf Deli Spring Campaign 2014 is going to be budget priced, minimalist, cheap, nasty and tacky.

Oh wait - that's what we have been doing for the last 15 years. Guess it is actually business as usual then.

_____________________________________________________________________________________

On the racing side of things, there are plenty of changes afoot this spring in the traditional random Spring Carnival re-shuffles.

- The feature races will no longer be the last race of the day at Caulfield, as they were last spring.

- The Thousand Guineas has moved from the normal mid-week spot, back to the previous Saturday, to be on the same day as the Caulfield Guineas. The Blue Sapphire has moved from that Saturday, to be the feature race on the Wednesday during Caulfield Cup Week.

- The Norman Robinson gets revamped into the Caulfield Classic to attract a bigger field, which in turn probably means even smaller fields for the standard five horse field Vase at Moonee Valley the week after.

- The Dato' Tan Chin Nam and Makybe Diva Stakes have swapped weeks, not sure why, probably something to do with switching weeks for picking up the kids after footy training.

Keeping up with all this? There is still more to come.

- There will be nine races on all Melbourne metro meetings, with 35 minutes between races, except for the first two races which will be 30 minutes apart. That way, if you are running late, you get to miss two races instead of just one. Except for the days when there are ten races on the card. Goodness knows what happens then.

- The number of clerks of the course at city meetings is reduced from three to two, due to cost saving measures. So that's less time between races, and fewer clerks of the course to assist in taking horses to the barrier. Perfectly logical. Furthermore, the unemployed clerk's horses will now be forced to apply for 40 jobs a month, else will be cut off from their hay supply.

The Turf Deli Spring Campaign 2014 will be a cut down version focusing largely on the weekly tips and form. Mainly because after 15 years in the business, we are well and truly skint for story ideas.

If you feel inspired to write a humorous feature story for distribution, or have an idea for a story we would love to hear from you at info@turfdeli.com.au

We will also be sending out regular tips and updates via Facebook and Twitter, including Lunchtime TAB specials whenever something we are following is running, especially for those who get the betting munchies in between the feature meetings.

We run a fun and free service, so if you wish to support us, you can do so in one of the following ways:

- Forward our emails onto friends, family, work mates, and obscure minor party Senators.

-Take advantage of one of the many special betting offers available for Turf Deli Subscribers, by clicking through the ads on the form guide.

-Recommend Turf Deli to friends, Link Turf Deli on your own websites, Tweet Turf Deli, Facebook Turf Deli, and most importantly Wave at Turf Deli when you see us at the races.

Any support is greatly appreciated. We also welcome any feedback about the site, emails, and the tips, for better or worse.

Happy punting

FROM THE RACING ARCHIVES
_____________________________________________________________________

It is great that in this modern age you can lazily access any bit of information almost immediately online.

But there is only one website that is prepared to put in a special effort. Go that extra yard. Delve into the climate controlled historical archives (also known as the garage) and pull out the Racing Archives.

Every week this spring we will be featuring a little bit of hard copy history from the Racing Archives.

THIS WEEK: MELBOURNE CUP 1993

With VINTAGE CROP passing away a few weeks back, here are the results for the 1993 Melbourne Cup.

VINTAGE CROP won at 14-1, TE-AKU NICK ran 2nd at 160-1 and MERCATOR ran 3rd at 125-1.

What a wipe out! Trifecta paid unders at $55,893. There was no flexi betting in those days to help you out. And you won't find this results grid online anywhere - just in the garage.
