Turf Deli Racing News

Get Thee To Flemington

At the unprecedented risk of actually providing something vaguely resembling useful factual information in our weekly newsletter, there are now some new ticketing packages available for Flemington which we feel are worth checking out.

This year, Flemington have introduced a Flemington Season Pass which seriously looks damn good value.

For $200, you can go to all of the Flemington meetings for the year - including the whole of Cup Week.

That's right - every home game at Flemington for $200.

Live. In 3D reality. Right in front of you. With real horses. On a real racetrack. With real grass - kid you not.

We realise that they still have such a long way to go to compete with the hypnotic drone of the Trackside virtual reality racing game - but they are trying their best. Really they are.

Tickets to Derby Day or Melbourne Cup are a tidy $75 just on their own, so if you plan to go during Cup Week you will quickly cover the cost of the yearly pass. Plus you are free to frolic on the empty lawns in glorious sunshine during the much under-rated Autumn carnival.

The VRC have also announced that children under the age of 16 get in for free during Cup Week.

Just think - if you take along your toddler this year, and continue every year until they turn 16 - you can ensure they have the basic grounding required to make it to fifty Cups in row and feature in a quirky news story in 2062.

Just think of the children. Think of their future.

Last Week's Results

Big and Small

They say racing is all about highs and lows, ups and downs, and last week's tips were all about the very, very big and the very, very small.

There were only the two winners in the tips, one was very, very short, but the other was bigger than big as we found the longest priced winner of the day in the selections.

Race 5: 1-GOLDEN ARCHER 1st W=$1.80
Race 7: 15-CUBAN SUNDAY 1st W=$32.30

Similarly, the Betting Portfolio was all over the place, being so close to the money all day, but still recording a small loss.

The Best Bet of the Day won - Race 5: 1-GOLDEN ARCHER 1st W=$1.80 - but with scratchings and solid backing started far shorter than expected.

The Best Each Way - Race 2: 7-BIANCON ROSE W=$5.00 ran 2nd - and was probably a little unlucky after going for home far too early, but we didn't take the right combination in our quinella for a collect.

The Best Rough - Race 3: 8-FLASH OF DOUBT 2nd W=$11.80 ran a solid race at odds too, but then the Lay of the Day got up for the 2nd week in a row to blot the copy book. You should never copy other people's work by the way.

Frustratingly, for the 2nd week in a row we found some huge value runners in the Turf Deli Wonder Bet, but failed to pick the right bet to collect. Our 5 suggested selections in the third leg of the quaddie were 2,5,7,14,15 with a comment of :

Go wide in the 3rd leg which is where you are most likely to get a result – including the long shots the (14) and the (15)

So we found the value winner and trick result 15-CUBAN SUNDAY 1st W=$32.30, but also rather cleverly spotted the other roughie at massive odds, 14-EBONY ROCK 2nd W=$52.60. Needless to say the quinella paid a whopping $426 on those two, and there was a mega whopping $14,028 trifecta on the numbers 15-14-5 which were covered in the 5 selections for the quaddie. Don't you just love it when that happens ?

So glad we took a quaddie and not a trifecta...

It has been a slow start to the year for the Betting Portfolio, but we have been pretty close to the money the last two weeks without striking a profit

2012 Spring Campaign : 3 weeks - 0 profits - 2 returns - 1 wipe outs - Net : -$95.45
