Welcome to the first week of the Turf Deli Mini Spring Campaign 2016. This year we are going to be running a mini cut down version, so we will just be posting tips and suggested bets on Facebook and on the website. There will be no newsletter mail outs and no detailed form preview.
Finally we get some variation in the winter fields and the good horses start to re-appear at Caulfield. Track is a GOOD(4) and probably improving with clear weather and they have been running on OK and winning recently at this track. Looks a solid betting program with one or two tricky races in between, but most of the rest think you can have a confident bet with exposed form.
BEST BET: Race 4: 8-OCEAN EMBERS $10 WIN
There are a few talented types on the way up in this race. This one was super impressive flashing home to win here 2 starts back and then flew home to just miss in Adelaide. Should be fitter for the 2 runs in and suspect she is going to continue to improve with more racing and might be a classy sprinter. Back straight out at around $3.60
BEST EACH WAY: Race 1: 4-HURSLEY $5 EW
Has been racing very consistently and has been toughing it out carrying big weights (60 kgs last 3 runs), and drops in weight today. Looks extremely well weighted against his main rival the (6) who he meets 5kgs better off for being beaten 1.6L here two starts back. Small field, but can sit handy and control the race here with not much speed and looks a fantastic each way bet at around $4.60
BEST EACH WAY: Race 9: 5-MAGICUS $4 EW
Plenty of chances in the last race, but this one has been racing well and is fitter for the 3 runs in. Should box seat and was unlucky here last start when just held up for runs at a crucial stage and then came out and chased hard. Each way at around $4.20
QUINELLA: Race 6: 2-SWORD OF LIGHT#1,5,6,13 x $1 = $4
Super tricky opening racing of the 3 year old filly season with plenty of chance. But the safest way to go might be the (2), who is normally pretty reliable racing on speed and was good here last start. Should present at the right time, but might find one better and looks a good anchor for a value quinella collect at around $8.
BEST ROUGH: Race 2: 8-GIGI GIRL $3 EW
Small field, with a few that are mixing their form and think the in form mid-weeker appeals here at odds. Good win/place strike rate and gets in with a light weight with the claim. Fit and in form and should be able to go forward here in a small field with not much speed so might run better than expected at around $13.
BEST ROUGH: Race 7: 6-AWESOME ROCK $3.50 EW
Intriguing feature race to kick off the spring, with so many unknowns, but wonder if punters are forgetting that this guy is effectively the Australian Cup winner and proven at WFA. 1st up form isn’t that bad, and is going to be suited here with what looks to be a very fast speed with lots of pressure up front. He may surprise 1st up running on late and think he is worth each way at the $15 on offer.
LAY OF THE DAY: RACE 1: 5-NAME THE DAY at around $4.80
Might as well get the Lay of the Day out of the way in the first race. This one won last start but is meeting 3 in form rivals and didn’t think he beat much last start. Think his rivals will have him covered today and happy to risk at around $4.80.
TURF DELI WONDER BET : Here we try and turn $5 into a whole lot more with a silly multiple bet.

Traditional to kick off spring with a Poor Man’s Quaddie with 4 value place chances. In Race 3 the (7) has been running well and has a really good place strike rate and looks a safe way to kick off. The (15) in the feature race has trialled well and will be suited with the speed on. The (7) in Race 8 can jump and go forward here and has a good Caulfield record at odds, and expect the (3) in the Race 9 is going to improve back to a dry track. Looking at a very ambitious $700 or so for a $5 outlay.
